Apple's Community Impact: A Year of Exceptional Volunteerism and Philanthropy

In 2022, Apple and its dedicated teams have made a significant impact, contributing to local organizations and global causes in extraordinary ways.

One of the key initiatives has been Apple's Employee Giving program, which has raised over $880 million since its inception 11 years ago. For every hour an Apple team member volunteers or dollar they donate, Apple matches with a monetary donation to the same organization. This year, over 76,000 team members have logged more than 2 million volunteer hours.

In the US, Apple Store team member Elyn Tang has been volunteering throughout the year with organizations that clean up local rivers and help families who have children with disabilities in Shanghai. Her efforts are mirrored by Sandra Maranhão in Rio de Janeiro, who volunteers with organizations that raise awareness around prostate cancer, help those living on the streets, and support young people in her community.

Apple's commitment to environmental justice is evident in its grants to organizations such as the Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition, the Center for Diversity and the Environment, the Native Conservancy, and UPROSE. These grants aim to advance environmental justice and advocate for communities most impacted by climate change and environmental disparities.

Apple's environmental efforts extend beyond financial support. More than 1,300 Apple team members participated in dozens of cleanups and environmentally focused events across the globe for Earth Day. In India, Rise Against Hunger hosted multiple meal-packaging events at Apple campuses in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, collectively putting together over 30,000 meals.

Apple's philanthropic endeavours also extend to supporting food banks and other organizations that address food disparity. This is evident in its Strengthen Local Communities grant program and other initiatives.

In the realm of arts and education, Apple's Creative Studios program by Today at Apple partners with community organizations, mentors, and Apple Store teams to offer career-building creative experiences. Sankakusha, a nonprofit that helps young adults struggling with isolation, conducted a five-week course in fields like photography and videography.

Apple's 16-year partnership with the Global Fund through the (PRODUCT)RED campaign in sub-Saharan Africa continues to make a difference. This partnership aims to provide access to life-saving HIV/AIDS treatments, prevent mother-to-child transmission, and eliminate malaria.

In Cork, Ireland, Apple employees have been volunteering for the last five years at the Field of Dreams, a horticultural site operated by Down Syndrome Ireland. This year, the Apple community's volunteer engagement is up more than 250% year over year.

Apple's efforts also extend to humanitarian causes. In response to the crisis in Ukraine, Apple launched a two-to-one matching program for all employee donations to organizations helping support humanitarian efforts in the region.

In a heartwarming story, Apple employee Elyn Tang wrote a letter of support to a young girl, not knowing who would receive it. She received an emotional reply in June, highlighting the personal impact of Apple's philanthropic efforts.

Apple's team members embody the spirit of giving and volunteerism, making a tangible difference in their communities and the world. Their efforts are a testament to Apple's commitment to making the world a better place.
