Wicked's Significant Reduction in Gameplay Duration Reveals Previously Hinted-at Scene from Trailers

As the hit movie Wicked continues to smash box office records, fanatics of the Universal Pictures' melodramatic film featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have been meticulously scouring its trailers, seeking out every hidden message. Particularly intriguing is a shot of the best friends lounging among flowers, causing many to speculate if it's a sneak peek into Wicked Part Two.

Recently, Bowen Yang, the scene-stealing character Pfannee, had a chat with Trisha Paytas on the Just Trish podcast. During the sit-down, Yang revealed that Pfannee, the film's first installment's comedic relief and best friend confidante, will make a comeback in Part Two. In relation to the sequel and beyond, Yang mentioned that Ethan Slater, portraying the role of Boq, has an undisclosed physique, which was supposed to be highlighted during competition for Galinda's affection between the "Popular" and "I'm Not That Girl" sequences.

"Between those scenes, they shot a montage to illustrate that these individuals are now buddies: Fiyero, Galinda, Elphaba, Nessa, and Boq, the five of them frolicking around, socializing," Yang detailed, discussing the film's deleted scenes. He disclosed that Elphaba's poppies served as a leftover from a sequence where the group frolicked in a poppy field, laughing and enjoying themselves. While this sudden bonding felt a touch jarring in the movie, it was meant to suggest that everyone had grown fond of each other.

Yang went on to describe a moment captured by paparazzi as the actors hung out in a London park. This scene involved Boq and Fiyero stripping off their shirts, revealing Bailey and Slater's muscular physiques. Fans were sadly underwhelmed when this scene was ultimately cut from the film. "And then Boq, in the story of the movie, was insecure and eager to look attractive too, taking off his shirt. But then it's like, 'wait, Ethan's got a fantastic body'...", he continued.

It's unfortunate that fans missed out on this deleted scene, but here's hoping for bonus content in the Wicked Part One home release. Catch the entire podcast below:
