Vietjet Expands Operations: Four New Routes Planned Between India and Vietnam

In a significant move, Vietnamese low-cost carrier Vietjet has announced an expansion of its flight operations between India and Vietnam, increasing the number of routes and weekly flights connecting the two countries. This development marks Vietjet's post-pandemic return and continued expansion in the country.

The new flight network now includes 10 routes, operating 78 weekly flights, linking major cities in both countries. Key Vietnamese cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang are now directly connected with major Indian cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.

Two new routes launched in 2025 connect Ho Chi Minh City with Hyderabad and Bangalore, offering twice weekly and three times weekly flights, respectively. This growth in operations has significantly increased Vietjet's share of seats from India to Vietnam, which rose from 18% in 2019 to 78% in 2025, with Vietjet alone accounting for 52% of available seats between the two countries.

Passengers can enjoy flying on new and modern aircraft provided by Vietjet, primarily Airbus A320ceo and A320neo aircraft. The new flights have a convenient schedule throughout the week, with each flight leg between Vietnam and India approximately five hours long.

The expanded flight network reaffirms Vietjet's ongoing commitment to helping travelers save on cost and time. The airline's extensive flight network in the Asia Pacific region also allows for transit flights to various Southeast Asian destinations, such as Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.

The increased connectivity enhances trade and tourism by facilitating easier, more frequent travel. Vietnam aims to leverage this as a strategic hub to link India and China, potentially positioning Vietnam as a key transit point given its geographic advantage and growing air routes. The expanded air links are expected to boost economic, cultural, and tourism interactions between India and Vietnam, catalyzing stronger bilateral trade and tourist flows.

The announcement was made at a grand event attended by high-profile dignitaries, including Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vuong Dinh Hue, Speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament of India Om Birla, and Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Le Minh Khai. Vietjet Managing Director Dinh Viet Phuong expressed excitement about connecting Vietnam and India with six direct routes.

This strategic growth in connectivity is part of Vietjet’s broader expansion plans, reflecting strong demand from the Indian market and fostering closer economic and tourism links between India and Vietnam. The Mumbai - Phu Quoc route will operate four round trips per week from September 9, 2022, further strengthening the airline's presence in the region.
