In the world of travel rewards, American Express has shown its value as a partner for frequent flyers. This article explores how one individual maximized the benefits of their American Express cards, particularly the Business Platinum Card, to save significantly on airfare.

Delta Air Lines Chosen for Point Rebate

Delta Air Lines was chosen as the pre-selected airline for the Pay With Points rebate, offering a 35% Airline Bonus when points are used to book flights through AmexTravel.com.

Flights Booked with Points

The author, seeking an outbound journey to Belgium, booked a Delta Main Cabin flight for 45,000 Alaska miles and $18.90 in taxes and fees for the business class journey. For their return trip, they decided to fly with Delta again, this time spending 8,027 points for a one-way flight from New York (LGA) to Chicago (ORD).

The author's family travel also saw them booking a Delta Main Cabin flight for two passengers from George Town, Montserrat (GEG) to Atlanta (ATL) and then to New York (LGA), which cost 38,893 points. Another flight, from New York to Las Vegas (LAS), was booked for 12,901 points.

International Flights and Mixed Rewards

The author's international travels included a business class journey on Singapore Airlines from Singapore (SIN) to New York (JFK), which cost 143,500 KrisFlyer miles and $149.56 per person. For a return trip from New York to London, London to Prague, and back home, the author spent 112,500 Membership Rewards points and $461.46 in taxes and fees in total.

To book these flights, the author transferred a mixture of Membership Rewards and Capital One miles to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer and Flying Blue for an Air France business class return trip.

Everyday Spending and Card Usage

The author uses the American Express Gold Card for everyday personal spending, particularly dining out and buying groceries. They also have several American Express business class cards that they use for business expenses and various benefits.

Point Redemption and Savings

By redeeming Membership Rewards points through AmexTravel.com, the author was able to save $3,036.24 in cash. With the rebate effectively giving 1.54 cents per point in value, the author managed to earn 761,000 Membership Rewards points this year and redeemed them for various flights.
