Today, Sony confirmed that Beyond will be directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson. Persichetti, who co-directed Into the Spider-Verse with Peter Ramsey and Rodney Rothman, and Thompson, who served as the production designer on the original movie, shaping its now-famous visual style, are set to take the helm. Thompson stepped up to co-direct Across with Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers.
"Bob and Justin's influence is deeply embedded in the fabric of these films, and their passion for Miles' journey is evident in every frame of his last escapade," producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller said in a statement (via Deadline). "Working with creative partners who possess a daring vision and flawless execution like Bob and Justin is one of life's greatest pleasures. This has been a long-winded journey, with the movie first announced in 2021, accompanied by the sequel's debut trailer—initially billed as the Part 2 to its Part 1. Reports emerged about tough working conditions on Across, followed by accusations of a prolonged overhaul of work on Beyond earlier this year. It now seems unlikely that we'll see the movie grace the big screen for a few more years. Here's hoping Persichetti and Thompson make it worth the wait.
