The Mummy's Revival Emanates in 2026 with a Fresh Film

It's been close to a decade since we've seen a major mummy movie, with Universal attempting a revival of their horror icons through the Dark Universe and the singular entry, The Mummy. Post that, the studio focused on other monsters such as Dracula and deemed invisible beings and wolf variants. However, if you've been yearning for the return of the mummified undead on the silver screen, Blumhouse might just satisfy your cravings with a fresh Mummy production.

This upcoming movie will be helmed by Lee Cronin, the director-writer of last year's Evil Dead Rise. In a brief statement, Cronin hinted, "This isn't any Mummy movie you've ever seen before. I'm delving deep into the Earth to resurrect something extremely ancient and terrifying." The film will be a joint production by Cronin's Doppelgängers company, Jason Blum's Blumhouse (expecting a Wolf Man debut soon), and James Wan's Atomic Monster banner, which includes The Monkey and M3GAN 2.0 for 2025.

Interestingly, this forthcoming Mummy movie isn't from Universal, who distributed the dismal 2017 remake and the beloved 90's installments starring Brendan Fraser. Instead, this new endeavor hails from New Line, which previously collaborated with Cronin on Rise and worked hand-in-hand with Atomic Monster on the Conjuring and recent Mortal Kombat productions. Universal has released some New Line movies in the past (primarily for international audiences), but this appears to operate in its own realm, separate from Universal's Mummy series. It would be fascinating if they manage to communicate this distinction effectively to avoid confusion.

Further details about Lee Cronin's Mummy will be unveiled prior to its release on April 17, 2026.
