Sukhothai's Old Town Wins Green Destinations Gold Award 2025
Sukhothai's Old Town has been honoured with the prestigious Green Destinations Gold Award 2025. This recognition comes as Thailand celebrates ten of its destinations being listed in the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories Awards. Sukhothai follows in the footsteps of Nan Old Town, which received the Gold Award last year.
Sukhothai's Old Town has been applying the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria since 2019. This commitment has paid off, with the town scoring a perfect 10 in culture and tradition. This reflects its status as a UNESCO World Heritage site and its role in sustaining local livelihoods.
The award was presented at the Green Destinations international event in Montpellier, France, from September 28 to October 2. Meanwhile, Koh Chang in Trat has also been recognised for its biodiversity and natural heritage. This nod aims to elevate the image of Trat province and boost interest in the island.
Sukhothai's Old Town, with its rich cultural heritage and sustainable practices, has been recognised on the global stage. Alongside Koh Chang, these destinations are putting Thailand on the map for sustainable tourism.
