Spanish Gas Bills to Rise Oct 1, 2025: Butane, Natural Gas Prices Up
Starting October 1, 2025, Spanish households can expect a rise in their gas bills. Both natural gas and butane cylinder prices will increase, putting a strain on budgets, particularly for low-income families and rural homes relying on butane for heating and cooking.
The price of a butane cylinder, commonly used in rural areas, will rise from €15.37 to €15.93, an increase of €0.56 per cylinder. This means a household using two cylinders per month will pay an extra €1.12 monthly. With about 64.5 million butane cylinders used yearly in Spain for essential needs, this increase will significantly impact many households.
The regulated Tariff of Last Resort (TUR) for natural gas is also increasing. For a typical household (TUR1) using 400 kWh of natural gas per month, the variable cost will rise from 4.12 cents to 4.50 cents per kilowatt-hour, and the fixed monthly fee will jump from €3.26 to €3.93. Neighborhood communities (TUR4) using natural gas will face a bigger hike, with monthly costs rising by roughly €6.24 for a building using 2,000 kWh, plus a fixed fee increase of €16.90. A household using 400 kWh of natural gas per month will pay an extra €2.19 per month due to the price increase.
These price hikes are driven by rising costs of raw materials and the need to stockpile gas reserves for winter.
Starting October 1, 2025, Spanish households can expect to pay more for their gas. The increases, while modest for some, will put a strain on low-income households and rural communities heavily reliant on butane cylinders. The increases are a result of global market pressures and the need to ensure adequate winter supplies.
