Remnants of 'Knödelexpress' restored in Prague
In a significant development for rail travel, the Knödel Express train connection between Prague and Berlin is undergoing modernization, set to take effect from July 26th. Despite this upgrade, the traditional dining cars from the iconic train service will continue to be a part of the journey, particularly on the segment between Prague and Leipzig.
This nostalgic dining experience, popular on the rail connection between Berlin and Prague, includes stops in Saxony such as Leipzig, where the dining cars are appreciated. However, exact locations where these traditional dining cars are currently available remain unspecified.
The existing cars will be replaced by more modern Comfort-Jet trains, allowing for an increased capacity of around 100 more passengers. The new trains, Nightjets, can reach a speed of 230 km/h, providing a faster and more comfortable journey for passengers.
The Eurocity trains on the Prague - Berlin route, with the exception of EC 378, EC 170, EC 258, EC 171, EC 379, EC 259, and EC 172/173 Hungaria, will already be served by Comfort-Jets. Trains departing from Prague Main Station at 10:28, 16:28, and 20:28 to Berlin, as well as those departing from Berlin Main Station at 07:15, 11:16, and 00:16 to Prague, will continue to have the dining cars (EC 378, EC 170, and EC 258, and EC 171, EC 379, and EC 259 respectively).
The Euro-City connection EC 172/173 Hungaria is made up of Hungarian wagons, while the trains EC 171, EC 379, and EC 259, departing from Berlin Gesundbrunnen, will also continue to have the dining cars (EC 259). The traditional dining cars will not be scrapped but will be used on Czech domestic connections in the future.
Michal Krapinec, the head of Czech Railways, hinted at the continuation of the traditional dining cars in a press release, adding to the excitement for rail travellers looking forward to this unique aspect of the journey.
Meanwhile, unrelated news includes a frontal collision on B464 in Magstadt, and a lawyer for the wife of Sulaiman A. has stated that she was threatened after the knife attack in Mannheim. Tennis star Stefanos Tsitsipas has also announced his split from his coach Goran Ivanisevic.
- Despitw the modernization of the Knödel Express train connection, traditional dining cars will still be offered on certain segments, including the journey between Berlin and Leipzig, maintaining a cherished aspect of rail travel lifestyle.
- Not all Eurocity trains on the Prague - Berlin route will feature modern Comfort-Jets; specific trains, such as EC 378, EC 170, EC 258, EC 171, EC 379, EC 259, and EC 172/173 Hungaria, will continue to offer the traditional dining cars for passengers interested in finance and lifestyle, appreciating the historical touch.
- In the near future, traditional dining cars will no longer be available on the Prague - Berlin route but will instead be utilized on Czech domestic connections, providing an opportunity for travelers to sample this unique industry experience within the country.
