Visitors can enjoy swimming, boating, fishing, paddling, hiking, biking, and even a challenging 18-hole disc golf course. The lake area provides clean restrooms, picnic tables at each campsite, a kitchen area for larger groups, and access to campfires and potable water.
The lake, famed for its fishing scene, waterfront camping, and kayaking, is stocked with trout, bass, and bluegill, making it an angler's paradise. For those who prefer dry land, the recreational area has a 1.3-mile circular trail near Placerville, perfect for a leisurely hike.
The area accommodates both tents and RVs, with some sites providing private lake launch areas and scenic views. Pets are welcome, with a requirement for them to be on a leash and waste to be picked up. Each campsite allows a maximum of two vehicles; additional vehicles can be parked in the overflow area.
The Finnon Lake Recreation Area charges a one-time fee of $10. The dam at Finnon Lake was closed in 1997, but recent restoration efforts have transformed it into a peaceful retreat area with beautiful campgrounds, thriving wildlife, and breathtaking scenery.
