Paramount Continues to Ponder Over Strategies for Mission: Impossible 8

The preparation forMission: Impossible–Dead Reckoning (previously known as Part One) has been quite a challenge, with issues stemming from the pandemic causing delays. The sequel has also encountered its fair share of difficulties, leaving Paramount in a situation where they're eager to release it while simultaneously figuring out how to worldwide marketing strategy, beyond the famous Tom Cruise stunt, of course.

On a related note, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Cruise is keen on reviving his 1990 racing film flop, Days of Thunder. Additionally, they provided updates on the current status of the eighth Mission movie—it's currently in post-production, supposedly costing $400 million just for production, which faced various delays, including a halt due to last year’s Hollywood strikes. Paramount reportedly intends to market this upcoming, untitled sequel as a farewell for Cruise's long-lasting (and constantly running) character, Ethan Hunt, in an attempt to pique audience interest further.

Back in the day, it was suggested that Ethan would be having a last hurrah, but Cruise expressed his desire to continue playing these roles until he practically can't anymore. Consequently, it's no surprise that he'd prefer to maintain this, or at least simulate the illusion for a while.

Paramount is aiming to present Mission: Impossible 8 at Cannes next year, before its scheduled May 23, 2025 release. Nonetheless, as The Hollywood Reporter points out, both Horizon: An American Saga and Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny also attended the festival last year, and their box office performances suffered as a result. But Paramount remains hopeful about the film; Cannes will run from May 13-May 24, so if the film excels there, festival reception could provide a significant boost. Should the film falter, domestic critic and audience reactions could overshadow those criticisms.

Eventually, according to The Hollywood Reporter, we can expect to see our first glimpse of Mission: Impossible 8, along with its new title, in the coming weeks.
