Nahous: Richard Vedelago's Cultural Revolution in Lagos' Historic Palace
Richard Vedelago has transformed the east wing of Lagos' Federal Palace Hotel into Nahous, a multidisciplinary cultural hub combining art, fashion, graphic design, and culture. The project took only three to four months to complete, transforming the historic site into a vibrant, modern space.
Vedelago, with a background in real estate and hospitality, honoured Nigeria's post-independence optimism by choosing the Old Federal Palace site for Nahous. He aimed to fill gaps in Lagos' cultural ecosystem by bringing various disciplines together.
Nahous houses a gallery, a concept store, a furniture showroom, and Bar 77, anchoring Lagos' creative ecosystem. Its programming is heavily influenced by Bauhaus, collapsing hierarchies between art, craft, and graphic design. The space combines Bauhaus-inspired minimalism with the hotel's preserved midcentury bones, creating a unique blend of old and new.
Nahous hosts weekly talks, masterclasses, exhibitions, a book club, and events spanning music, literature, fashion, and graphic design. Vedelago's vision for Nahous is to create permanent, independent platforms for art, fashion, graphic design, and culture in Lagos, fostering a thriving creative community.
