Mercedes-Benz Unveils Electric GLC: A New Era for the Best-Selling Model

Mercedes-Benz is set to expand its popular GLC series with an electric model, internally known as X 254. This new addition, set to launch in the first quarter of 2026, will be the first Mercedes to run on the MB.EA, an 800-volt architecture designed exclusively for electric drive.

The electric GLC retains its SUV silhouette but appears slightly flatter and more stretched. The front of the vehicle features a new design with an illuminated grille and daytime running lights. A highlight of the new GLC is the one-meter-wide Hyperscreen, which includes the instrument cluster, central display, and an optional touchscreen for the passenger.

Under the hood, the new GLC houses a frunk with a volume of 128 liters. The vehicle's infotainment system includes artificial intelligence from both Microsoft and Google. The GLC can have up to ten external cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors to provide the MB.Drive system with necessary information.

The GLC will initially launch with the GLC 400 4Matic model, offering a power output of 360 kW / 490 PS. The largest battery in the GLC has a usable capacity of 94 kWh, providing a range of 700 kilometers. The electric GLC will be produced in Bremen, Kecskemet/Hungary, and Peking/China.

The interior of the GLC can be fully vegan, even with official certification. The new GLC offers an additional 5 centimeters of legroom in the front and back due to a longer wheelbase compared to the current combustion model. The trunk capacity is 570 liters, expandable to up to 1,740 liters when the rear seats are folded down.

The grille of the electric GLC consists of 942 small LED squares. The vehicle also boasts a standard panoramic roof that can electronically dim against sunlight, and a 2.4-ton towing capacity with a 100-kilogram trailer load.

The production of the electrically powered GLC is part of Mercedes-Benz's global production network under its sustainability and digitalization strategy. However, the specific company or factory responsible for the production is not explicitly stated in the available sources.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is the most frequently sold model by the company in the past decade. With the introduction of the electric GLC, Mercedes-Benz continues to demonstrate its commitment to electric mobility and innovation.

Stay tuned for more updates on the electric GLC as we approach its launch in 2026.
