Sustrans, the UK's leading active travel organisation, is on the hunt for a Head of New Developments. This role is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact, embedding active travel—walking, wheeling, and cycling—into new housing developments.
The Head of New Developments will play a key role in Sustrans' new chapter, focusing on influencing housing delivery organisations to adopt active travel principles. This role requires leading influencing work aimed at organisations in housing delivery and developing an offer to partners.
With a vision of a society where travel creates healthier places and happier lives for everyone, Sustrans has been at the forefront of active travel for over 30 years. The organisation has developed the National Cycle Network, creating 16,500 miles of traffic-free and low-traffic routes.
Sustrans is a community of talented, passionate, creative problem solvers. The successful candidate will join a team that designs award-winning infrastructure solutions, works with communities, provides data and advice, and advocates for changes in policy and funding.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in the housing delivery sector and a professional network in housing delivery. They will be based in any of Sustrans' offices and will need to be prepared for frequent in-person meetings and site visits, particularly in the Midlands and South of England.
The role involves connecting with professionals and decision-makers involved in delivering new homes to adopt actions for increasing active travel. The Head of New Developments will collaborate with Sustrans' Commercial team and experts to generate a pipeline of funded projects from public, private, and third sector partners.
Sustrans offers a competitive package, including flexible working practices, enhanced maternity and paternity pay, a Group Personal Pension scheme with a contribution being matched, and 28 days leave per annum plus bank holidays for full-time working. London Weighting Allowance of £4,530 is also offered for those living in a London Borough.
