James Gunn expresses disinterest in DC Universe being constrained by post-credits sequences.
Ever since Nick Fury popped up at the end of "Iron Man" in 2008, superhero movies have been all about those post-credit scenes. It doesn't matter if the movie's great; it's the tease that gets everyone hyped! Who's next? Superman? Thanos? Even Harry Styles?! Post-credit scenes are Marvel Studios' bread and butter, and while DC has dabbled, they might not be so charm-bound.
Last week, DC Studios presidents James Gunn and Peter Safran sat down with the press to discuss their approach to teasing the future. And it's not going to be driven by post-credit scenes. They know where they're heading with the larger story, but beyond the essentials, it's a free-for-all.
Speaking from personal experience at Marvel, Gunn explained why they're being cautious with teases. Post-credit scenes can be a pain in the neck! If you promise something, you better deliver. But what if things change? That's where things can get messy. Gunn specifically used the example of Adam Warlock. Promised him, then crammed him into the film. It worked, but it wasn't as clean as it could have been.
Now, let's speculate. "Superman" is happening. That's a given. Supergirl and Lanterns are in production as well. Those are solid. So, there's a good chance you'll see teases for those in "Superman." Not so sure about The Authority or Booster Gold yet.
DC already demonstrated this approach with Batman's appearance in "Creature Commandos." They knew they were making a Batman film, but the specifics were still up in the air. So, they gave us a little taste.

[Enrichment Data]DC Studios is taking a more conservative approach to post-credit scenes, emphasizing cohesive storytelling and avoiding unnecessary cliffhangers. Gunn's strategy aims to focus on standalone stories without relying heavily on future teasers. This contrasts with Marvel's frequent use of post-credits scenes to connect films and introduce new characters, contributing to the interconnected nature of the MCU.
The DC Studios leaders have defined a new strategy for future movies, opting to minimize post-credit scenes to promote cohesive storytelling and avoid unnecessary cliffhangers. This approach is a departure from Marvel's frequent use of post-credits scenes to interconnect films and introduce new characters. Despite this shift, Gunn suggested that we might still see teases for upcoming projects like 'Superman' and 'Supergirl' in upcoming DC Movies. Gunn's strategy aims to balance standalone stories with a focus on the larger picture, learning from Marvel's past experiences with post-credit scenes and their impact on future plot lines.
