"International Gütersloh commemorates life's harmonious multiculturalism"
In the heart of Gutersloh, Germany, a vibrant and diverse crowd gathered at Theodor-Heuss-Platz for the 48th edition of Gutersloh International. The theme of this year's event was "Living Together in Gutersloh," and it certainly reflected the city's rich cultural tapestry.
Mayor Matthias Trepper opened the ceremonial event on Saturday afternoon, welcoming visitors from all corners of the globe. However, there were no specific search results indicating who participated internationally on September 7, 2025.
Throughout the two-day festival, a varied stage program featuring dance and music performances from around the world took centre stage. The range of performances, from traditional to contemporary, mirrored the city's cultural diversity. The stage program also celebrated Gutersloh's 200th anniversary with music, dance, and festivities.
Visitors were encouraged to embrace the spirit of unity, repeatedly invited to dance and hold hands during the stage program. This symbolised peaceful coexistence in Gutersloh, a city known for its harmonious blend of cultures.
Food stalls offering culinary specialties and craftsmanship from more than 40 stands were scattered across the square. Miguel Gomez, a native of Gutersloh with Portuguese roots, served traditional Sagres beer at the event. Bonruan Perkmann, who has lived in Gutersloh since 1994, noted the popularity of the Thai stand's chicken skewers with peanut sauce, while Evi Gega, who moved to Gutersloh from Greece in 2011, tried Turkish quark balls at Halil Oskay's stand.
Farzaneh Sattar, who has lived in Gutersloh for 50 years, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange. She was joined by Liz Mohn, the matriarch of Bertelsmann, who also emphasised the significance of the festival.
A minute of silence was held at Gutersloh International in honour of the victims of the cable car accident in Lisbon. The human chain formed by visitors across the entire square was a poignant reminder of unity and solidarity.
Gutersloh International 2025 was a celebration of diversity, unity, and the city's rich history. It was a testament to the power of cultural exchange and the beauty of living together in harmony. The event concluded with a sense of unity and anticipation, looking forward to the next edition.
