In an effort to revitalise its tourism industry, the Singapore Tourism Board announced four new attractions at their annual industry conference on April 7, 2021. One of these exciting additions is the Museum of Ice Cream, set to open its doors at Dempsey Hill in August 2021.

Originating from the United States, the Museum of Ice Cream is a selfie-friendly attraction that offers visitors a fun and interactive experience filled with colourful and quirky installations. Key features include photo-worthy spaces such as bright pink doors, a dragon playground inspired by Toa Payoh, a tunnel with over 10,000 bananas in various colours, a bouncy pink castle, and the highly anticipated Sprinkle Pool.

Interactive elements include multisensory rooms, including a pink subway ride and a walk in the clouds, perfect for social media selfies. Visitors can also indulge in unlimited servings of delicious ice cream, with flavours matching the thematic rooms. Tickets start from SGD 35 for Singaporeans and PRs, SGD 43 for international visitors, with open hours daily from 10am to 7pm.

Minister of Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing outlined the country's vision for the tourism industry in a post-pandemic Covid-19 era, emphasising that while many things have gone virtual, the future of tourism lies in experiences rather than physical locations. The Museum of Ice Cream, with its immersive and interactive offerings, aligns perfectly with this vision.

The museum is expected to contribute significantly to Singapore's post-pandemic tourism strategy by revitalising local and international visitation, enhancing the country's image as a creative and fun destination, supporting recovery through domestic engagement, and leveraging social media marketing. The museum's design for selfies naturally generates organic social media exposure, reinforcing Singapore’s appeal in digital tourism promotion.

In addition to the Museum of Ice Cream, other attractions being developed include an aerial panoramic attraction offering a drink 35 meters above the ground with a 360-degree view, a thrilling human slingshot, and a new attraction in Singapore that will test new concepts on a vacant site. The Singapore Tourism Board has also invested in a marketing campaign called "Singapoliday" to promote local tourism.

Singapore aims to host new products and new experiences, allowing businesses from around the world to launch solutions and innovations as world premieres. These new attractions are being developed amidst a tourism crisis due to travel restrictions, but the Singapore Tourism Board remains hopeful and committed to rebuilding and repositioning Singapore as a vibrant, post-pandemic tourist hub.
