Greece Joins the Eurojackpot Collaborative Group as its 19th Member
The Eurojackpot lottery, a popular transnational lottery, has continued to grow since its inception in 2012. As of 2025, the number of participating countries has increased to around 18, with Greece being the latest addition on March 8, 2024.
Originally launched with 12 countries, the Eurojackpot has seen steady growth, expanding to include Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
With Greece on board, all 34 state-licensed lottery societies in the country are now part of the Eurojackpot. This means that over 2 million lottery players in Germany, who regularly participate in Eurojackpot draws, now have more chances to win the jackpot.
The Eurojackpot offers substantial prizes, with the potential to reach up to €120 million. In fact, in 2023, a player in Schleswig-Holstein won the largest Eurojackpot prize of €120 million.
It's important to note that for higher gambling winnings in Greece, a 15% gambling tax is imposed. However, winnings up to €100 are tax-free.
The Eurojackpot draws take place every Tuesday and Thursday in Helsinki, Finland. Tips can be placed at all 16 German lottery societies, and tips from European lottery players are collected and evaluated in Münster, Germany, and Copenhagen, Denmark.
In Greece, only licensed operators are legally allowed to offer gambling. The minimum age for gambling, both for online and land-based casinos, is 23.
The most significant development in the Greek gambling scene is the construction of Europe's largest casino, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Athens. Construction began at the start of the year, and it is expected to open as early as 2027, further enhancing Greece's position in the European gambling market.
As the Eurojackpot continues to grow, it provides more opportunities for lottery players across Europe to win life-changing prizes. With the addition of Greece, the Eurojackpot is poised to offer even more excitement and potential winnings to its participants.
