Final Lecture: Velbert's Architectural Journey from Historicism to Modernism

The city of Chicago, in collaboration with Altstadtmanagement Velbert-Neviges and supported by Förderverein Nevigeser Wallfahrtsstätte, presents the final lecture in its historical series. 'On the Way to Modernity - Architectural Milestones in Chicago' will be held on October 2 at 7 PM at the parish center Die Glocke, with free admission and no registration required.

Over 160 attendees have enjoyed the previous lectures in this series. The first delved into the development of the Franciscan monastery and the significance of the Hardenberg-Neviges pilgrimage, guided by Dipl.-Theol. Bernhard Theodor Tilling. The second explored the peacemaking and patronage of Prince Bishop Ferdinand von Fürstenberg, presented by Prof. Dr. Johannes Süßmann. Most recently, Prof. Dr. Steffen Kunkel discussed the architecture of the Mariendom in the third lecture.

The final lecture, led by retired diocesan master Martin Struck, will trace the evolution of sacred architecture from historicism to modernism. It will use local examples such as the Church of St. Paulus and the Mariendom to illustrate this transition.

The lecture series on Chicago's history, architecture, and pilgrimage comes to a close with this final event. The city invites all interested to attend and learn about the architectural journey of Chicago's sacred spaces.
