Exploring the Millau Viaduct in a Motorhome

A Scenic Drive Across the Millau Viaduct: A Motorhome Adventure Through Southern France

Embarking on a road trip through Southern France, our travelers found themselves approaching the iconic Millau Viaduct in their motorhome. The A75 motorway, connecting the north and south of France, leads to this engineering marvel, a remarkable and scenic crossing experience for motorhome adventurers.

The route offers smooth driving with panoramic views, making it an unforgettable journey. Motorhomes can cross the viaduct like any other vehicle; just pay the toll at the plaza before the viaduct. It's essential to check the motorhome length, height, and weight limits for A75 motorways and toll stations beforehand, but generally, standard motorhomes are allowed without issue.

After crossing the Millau Viaduct, the travelers resumed their journey towards Menton. They drove for about 4 hours with a short stop, but found very few camping spots along the coastline towards Menton in early March. Eventually, they found Camping Magali, a rustic French campsite located just north of Nice. The GPS coordinates for Camping Magali are N 43°42'52.2" E 7°10'38.82" (43.714500,7.177450).

Despite questionable electrics and less than desirable toilets, the travelers made the most of their stay at Camping Magali, using it as a base for a couple of days while they explored on motorbikes. The journey started late on Friday afternoon, and the travelers had no destination in mind for an overnight stop and found one about an hour north of the viaduct. The GPS coordinates for the overnight spot are N 45°28'5.1672000000001" E 3°16'50.7" (45.468102,3.280750).

The travelers' motorbikes weren't staying clean during the trip, and one of the straps at the back of their new trailer kept coming loose. However, they managed to enjoy their time at Camping Magali, even with their dog being restless. They spent a pleasant night at the overnight spot and climbed a hill next to their overnight spot at sunrise to watch the sun come up.

Before setting off on their next adventure, the travelers had a quick dinner of French sausages and salad, and a good night's sleep before their big lemon-themed adventure the next day. It's advisable to avoid the Millau Viaduct area in July and August due to heavy traffic.

The Millau Viaduct, the world's highest multi-span bridge, stands at a deck of 900ft above the valley floor, and is the longest suspended bridge in the world. Crossing it in a motorhome is an experience not to be missed when planning a road trip through Southern France.

When the travelers completed their crossing of the Millau Viaduct, they realized that finding suitable camping spots for their motorhome during the trip might require some assistance and local knowledge. They discovered the rustic Camping Magali as a temporary base for exploration, but finding a suitable overnight spot proved challenging until they found a location about an hour north of the viaduct.
