Natalia Woerner Explores Rome and Advocates for Gender Equality

Actress Natalia Woerner is set to grace the screens in Rome for the eighth episode of the popular series "The Diplomat." In this episode, Woerner will portray the role of Karla Lorenz.

Woerner, originally from Stuttgart, Germany, has been filming for the ARD series in Rome for several weeks. The city, she says, is a "living museum" that offers a unique blend of chaos and solutions, a trait she finds to be very Italian and lively.

One of her favourite pastimes in Rome is enjoying gelato, especially near iconic spots like the Spanish Steps. This cultural tradition, deeply rooted in Italy’s centuries-old gelato history, provides a social pleasure of gathering in famous city landmarks. While the Spanish Steps themselves are a renowned meeting place for locals and tourists enjoying all kinds of street food and treats, the area around central Rome features renowned gelaterias that contribute to the experience of savoring gelato in this picturesque setting.

The significance of gelato in Roman social life and near the Spanish Steps goes beyond just a snack. It is a blend of culinary tradition and Roman lifestyle—enjoying quality gelato while socializing, people-watching, or relaxing amidst the city’s art and architecture. This has long been part of both local culture and tourist appeal, framing gelato as a symbol of Italian leisure and sophistication.

Natalia Woerner particularly enjoys pistachio ice cream and finds sitting and enjoying gelato in front of the Spanish Steps to be the perfect crown of a day. However, sitting there is no longer allowed due to crowd control measures. After long days of filming, she often treats herself to gelato as a way to unwind.

Away from the set, Woerner prefers to keep her private life private. However, she has expressed a need for action in terms of gender equality. Injustices in pay still exist in her professional environment, and she believes that women are still evaluated by different standards privately and professionally.

The new episode of "The Diplomat" featuring Natalia Woerner will air on August 23rd on ARD. Despite her busy schedule, Woerner continues to advocate for gender equality and looks forward to sharing more of her Roman experiences with her fans.
