Experience a less-crowded Oktoberfest: These days offer a worthwhile visit

The much-anticipated Oktoberfest in Munich is set to attract large crowds this year, according to wiesnkini.de. Here's a guide to help you plan your visit and avoid the busiest times.

Weekdays vs Weekends

Americans tend to flock to the Wiesn during the first weekend, while Italians prefer the second weekend. However, the second week is generally more crowded than the first. On Tuesdays, 23rd and 30th September, families can enjoy discounts on rides, attractions, and food stalls until 7 pm.

Specific Dates

The Theresienwiese is usually quieter on weekdays mornings, but visiting during the afternoons can be busy. For instance, Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm are particularly crowded, while after 6 pm offers a more relaxed experience. On Sundays, the busiest times are 3 pm to 6 pm, but it becomes moderate after 6 pm, and Sundays from 6 pm onwards offer a relaxed evening.

The opening day of the Wiesn is less crowded in the afternoon compared to other Saturdays. On the first Oktoberfest Monday, the Fischer-Vroni tent is expected to be particularly crowded from 3 pm due to an event for gay Munich residents. The particularly lively "Gay Sunday" event in the Bräurosl tent takes place on Sunday, 21st September, leading to a higher visitor count in the entire tent.

Popular Tents and Days

The Augustiner tent, the Hacker tent, the Ochsenbraterei, and the Schützenfest tent are particularly crowded at midday. Large beer tents may be closed due to overcrowding from midday onwards on Saturdays. On the other hand, a spot in the beer garden should still be found on the opening day of the Wiesn.

Holiday and Special Events

Large crowds are expected on Friday, 3rd October due to the holiday. The visitor numbers barometer for Wiesn 2025 shows that Saturdays and Fridays are busy, while Sundays and weekdays are moderate. Mondays and Tuesdays are the quietest days.

On Sundays from 6 pm onwards, the Wiesn usually empties out. However, due to "Gay Sunday" in the Bräuhaus tent on the first Oktoberfest Sunday, it will be particularly crowded all day long. Similarly, the first Oktoberfest Monday will be particularly crowded in the Fischer-Vroni due to an event for gay Munich residents.
