Nestled in North-east Italy, near the South-East Alps, lies the breathtaking Tre Cime di Lavaredo. This stunning location, about 30 minutes from the border with Austria, is home to three distinctive dolomite peaks – Cima Grande, Cima Occidentale, and Cima Piccola – and offers a variety of outdoor activities for nature enthusiasts.

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo Loop Hike

The quintessential day hike at Tre Cime di Lavaredo is the 10-kilometer (6+ miles) loop around the Three Peaks, starting and ending at Rifugio Auronzo. This moderate hike takes approximately 3.5 hours, with mostly clear and well-marked trails, no exposed sections, and varying elevation gain. The trail offers breathtaking panoramic views of the three peaks, alpine meadows, and dramatic rock formations. Portions of the trail up to Rifugio Lavaredo are accessible with a stroller.

Hut-to-Hut Trekking

For a more immersive experience, hiking hut-to-hut (rifugi) around the Three Peaks Nature Park is recommended. This multi-day trek allows you to approach Tre Cime via scenic side valleys like Val Campo di Dentro, stay overnight in alpine huts, and enjoy varied high mountain terrain.

Val Fiscalina Trail

Starting at Val Fiscalina, near Hotel Fiscalina, the Val Fiscalina Trail is a well-marked 10 km trail that takes about 4–5 hours. This moderate route combines forested valleys, high alpine meadows, and striking views of the Tre Cime peaks.

Exploring Lake Misurina and Surrounding Peaks

Visitors can also explore Lake Misurina, which boasts spectacular views of the Tre Cime peaks and surrounding ranges. Activities include walking around the lake, dining at local restaurants, and optionally taking a cable lift (Col De Varda) for further walking and panoramic views.

Photography and Nature Watching

The area is prized for its wildflowers, alpine wildlife, and dramatic landscapes, appealing to photographers and nature lovers year-round.
