Hampton Manor's Latest Restaurant, Kynd, Delights Dinner Guests in West Midlands

A delightful culinary journey unfolds at Kynd, the newest restaurant addition to Hampton Manor in Solihull, West Midlands. The eatery, situated within the Manor's 19th-century building, provides a memorable experience marked by a casual, warm ambiance and seasonal, meticulously balanced plates.

After indulging in the flavorful, creme fraiche-dotted chocolate marquis at Kynd, my partner and I troops back to the hotel's Library Bar, buried in comfortable thoughts from our enjoyable meal. The restaurant's ambiance—characterized by copper lighting, distressed brickwork, and bold leather accents—creates a space where the stories of small farms take center stage, adding to the seasonal dishes' smoky, robust flavors.

As we wind down at the Library Bar, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours fills the air while we Costa Rica travel in time with a lovely, wine-induced glow. The bartender politely inquires about further orders and then lets us enjoy the tranquility of the 1970s atmosphere for as long as we wish.

Hampton Manor is distinguished as a five-star luxury hotel, offering 24 suites and bedrooms in three individually designed settings. First built in 1855 as the family residence of Prime Minister Robert Peel's son, Frederick, the Manor was later transformed into a care home before being acquired by hoteliers Derrick and Jan Hill in the early 2000s. Nestled within a 45-acre estate marked with cherry trees, the property features a regal, Tudor Gothic-style main building.

The owners' goal to maintain authenticity and hospitality is touted as the key to Hampton Manor's success, reflected in its numerous accommodation and culinary awards, including a Michelin Star for its Grace & Savour restaurant and mentions in the Top 50 Boutique Hotels, SquareMeal, and Good Food Guide's Top 5 and 20 Restaurants in the UK lists.

Fjona Hill, the hotel's Creative Director and co-founder, explains Hampton Manor's 'gravel drive' syndrome philosophy. Instead of enforcing formal behavior, the hotel encourages a relaxed and joyful atmosphere that prioritizes genuine hospitality.

In a bid to establish an estate-to-table identity and promote wellness, Hampton Manor is carving a niche for itself in the UK's growing farm-stay industry. With a visual language rooted in a sense of place, the hotel's design elegantly nods to numerous eras while embodying Fjona and her husband James's unique creative vision.

To appreciate Hampton Manor's design philosophy, visitors are greeted with a reception positioned in the front wing of the timeless building. From there, they are guided along ornate stone arches, smooth wood paneling, bucolic wallpapers, plush fabrics, and sculptural, sleek contemporary accents, all carefully curated to preserve the Manor House's historical architecture and create a thoroughly enchanting atmosphere.

The interiors, reflecting a thoughtful blend of old and new, showcase William Morris prints and pieces crafted by local artisans, inviting guests to touch and interact with the environment. Hampton Manor also hosts a regular series of events called 'Meet the Maker', where attendees are introduced to the talented individuals behind the hotel's culinary, crafting, gardening, and baking offerings.

"The Maker's Table is made from rare Bog Oak, a material recovered from bogs and preserved for centuries," Fjona explains, likening the table—located at the center of the Manor's events—to a kitchen island in a residential setting, designed to inspire conversation and camaraderie.

Guests may also participate in Hampton Manor's cooking, baking, and gardening workshops, aimed at fostering a love for great food, sustainable practices, and creativity. Whether it's the warm embrace of the Manor House or the vivacious energy of the Walled Garden, at Hampton Manor, every visitor is treated to an unforgettable experience that encourages connection and relaxation.
