Colin Farrell's Notable Penguin Portrayal Marks Subdued Golden Globes Triumph for Genre Cinema

Sci-fi, fantasy, and genre genres received some notable victories courtesy of The Penguin, The Substance, and Wicked at this year's Globes awards ceremony.

Colin Farrell's Notable Penguin Portrayal Marks Subdued Golden Globes Triumph for Genre Cinema

Colin Farrell might need to get accustomed to playing Oz Cobb for a while longer, considering the probable continuation of HBO's Batman crime series' second season and his Golden Globe victory for the role recently. It's never been a more suitable time for Gotham's criminal underworld.

Farrell's acting award, categorized under limited series, anthologies, and TV movies, was one of the few recognitions for genre media at the Golden Globes last night. The event primarily celebrated movies like The Brutalist and Emilia Perez in the film categories, while FX's Shogun, a Japanese historical drama, dominated the TV categories.

Other genre mentions in the Golden Globes included Demi Moore winning for best actress in a theatrical comedy or musical for _The Substance_, proving once again that genre films often get misplaced in award categories. Meanwhile, Wicked took home the "congratulations on making a lot of money" blockbuster category, Best Box Office Achievement.

Unfortunately, Dune: Part Two failed to secure a win in both best picture and best score categories, and Kathryn Hahn's performance as Agatha Harkness in Agatha All Along lost to Jean Smart for Hacks in the best actress for a TV comedy or musical series. You can discover the full nominee list below, with the winners highlighted.
