Coastal Research Forum 2025: Rethinking German Coastal Spaces

The first Coastal Research Forum is set to take place in Hannover on September 11 and 12, 2025. The event, titled 'Rethinking Coastal Spaces: Risks, Challenges, Opportunities', will bring together representatives from science, business, society, and politics to discuss the future of German coastal regions.

Organised by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Flöser, head of the Department of Hydromechanics, Coastal Engineering, and Offshore Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig, the forum will feature keynote speeches, presentations, and panel discussions. Climate change consequences, such as rising sea levels and extreme events, pose significant pressures on coastal regions worldwide. These areas, which are both living and economic spaces, face competing claims and protection interests. The Coastal Research Center, a joint facility of TU Braunschweig and Leibniz University Hannover, is hosting the conference to address these challenges and explore sustainable strategies for shaping, using, and protecting coasts.

The Coastal Research Forum 2025 aims to foster dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders to tackle the pressing issues facing coastal regions. By exploring the risks, challenges, and opportunities, the forum seeks to contribute to the development of sustainable coastal management strategies.
