Celebration of Christmas in Villach Proves to be a Notable Triumph
Last weekend, a delegation from the Bishop's City of Bamberg, Germany, visited Villach, Austria, to attend the 80th Kirchtag festival. The visit marked a continuation of the cultural and civic exchange between the two cities, which are partners.
The Bamberg delegation, led by Mayor Andreas Starke and Deputy Mayor Jonas Glüsenkamp, included gardeners, firefighters, city council members, city administration officials, and representatives from various community groups. The group numbered approximately 2,000 participants and 55 groups.
The visit began with the parade during the Kirchtag festival, where Bamberg firefighters marched alongside their Villach colleagues. A highlight of the parade was the presentation of garlic wreaths by a group of Bamberg gardeners to Mayor Günther Albel of Villach and Mayor Andreas Starke of Bamberg.
In addition to the Kirchtag festival, the Bamberg delegation also visited the partner city of Feldkirchen. During their visit, they jointly opened the Long Shopping Night event. The German sister city of Feldkirchen is, in fact, Bamberg itself, as the two cities have a 30-year city partnership celebrated together.
Mayor Martin Treffner showed the Bamberg guests the Bambachof, which is currently being renovated inside and will continue to serve as a cultural center.
The Faschingsgilde Landskron, a local organisation, honoured Deputy Mayor Jonas Glüsenkamp by naming him the NÄRRity-Botschafter and presenting him with an order and certificate. This recognition was in appreciation of his efforts to foster the relationship between the two cities.

The Bamberg delegation's attendance at the festival reinforces the strong ties between the two cities, and it is not the first visit by a Bamberg delegation to Villach, as they have a partner cities relationship.
