Blooming flowers from Chengdu introduce the enchantment of China in Kuwait
In the heart of Kuwait, a unique cultural event took place, aiming to foster harmony, unity, and mutual respect between the cultures of Kuwait and China. The event, titled "A Moonmoment to Remember - Blossoms of Chengdu," was inaugurated by H.E. Liu Xiang, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait.
The idea for the event was conceived by the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, and it was a celebration of Chengdu's intangible cultural heritage and photography. The evening provided a new window for Kuwaiti friends to experience the richness of Chinese civilization, with exhibitions showcasing the city's history, which dates back more than 4,500 years.
The event was inspired by a verse from Chinese poet Cheng Jiuling, which emphasizes the uniting power of the moon's light, regardless of distance. The verse, more than a thousand years old, reflects the event's aim to bridge the cultural gap between Kuwait and China.
H.E. Liu Xiang, in his inaugural speech, described Kuwait as a valued partner and close friend in the shared path of development and cultural exchange. He highlighted the shared authentic values between Kuwait and China, including the care for family and the eagerness of generations to gather together.
The performing artistic troupe came all the way from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, to perform at the event. The Charge d'Affaires expressed gratitude to the American University of the Middle East for hosting the event and thanked the Chengdu Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television, and the Chinese Cultural Center in Kuwait for their efforts.
The cultural event comes at a time when China has exempted Kuwaiti citizens from entry visas, a move that will further encourage tourism and cultural exchange between the two countries. The Charge d'Affaires wished the audience an enjoyable evening filled with the beauty of Chinese arts and the warmth of Kuwaiti-Chinese friendship.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Jassar, Secretary-General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, was present at the event's inauguration, underscoring the importance of such cultural exchanges in fostering understanding and appreciation between nations.
Chengdu is known worldwide as the home of the beloved giant panda, but on this night, it was its rich cultural heritage that took centre stage in Kuwait. The event was a testament to the power of culture as a bridge, connecting peoples and strengthening the bonds of friendship.
