The Azores, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic, is witnessing a surge in popularity, with easy access from the U.S. and a variety of activities drawing visitors. In June 2023, 477,000 tourists visited the region, with Americans making up nearly a fifth of that number.

Flights from major U.S. cities are convenient and affordable. A round trip from New York to Ponta Delgada in early October costs $596, with a flight time of around 6 hours. Boston residents can also enjoy a direct flight for $1,625. Once there, visitors can explore stunning beaches like Fajã Grande on Flores Island or Praia dos Mosteiros near Ponta Delgada.

The Azores offers a range of activities. Water sports enthusiasts can go snorkeling or scuba diving with CW Azores and Princess Alice site. Nature lovers can hike trails like Caldeirão and Agrião, leading to volcanic lagoons and breathtaking views. Whale-watching tours, with a high success rate, are also popular. Futurismo Azores Adventures charges 65 euros ($71) per person.

With its volcanic landscapes, beautiful beaches, and diverse activities, the Azores continues to attract a growing number of tourists. In June 2023, the U.S. was the second-largest source of visitors, indicating the Azores' appeal to American travelers.
