Ready for Road Chaos? Corpus Christi Holiday and Post-Vacation Rush!
Anticipate crowded roadways as celebratory day approaches and holiday travels conclude. - Anticipated crowd gatherings on public holidays and weekends
Consider yourself warned, fellow travelers! The roads ahead might be a nightmare in the coming days due to the likely traffic congestion. From mid-week, the Automobile Club ADAC has issued a stern warning about heavy traffic spots at times. The reason? It’s the Corpus Christi holiday on Thursday and the following bridge day, making for a perfect short vacation opportunity.
Several German states like Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, parts of Saxony, and Thuringia, along with Austria, will have Corpus Christi off work.
Here’s the catch – vacationers returning home will join the already anticipated traffic on the highways from Wednesday afternoon. To make matters worse, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are bidding farewell to their two-week Pfingst holidays, meaning even more travelers will be on the road, particularly those heading north.
Looking back at 2024 data, ADAC reports indicate that Wednesday before Corpus Christi was among the ten most congested days of the year.Needless to say, Wednesday this year is bound to be the busiest day of the week. On a hopeful note, the ADAC predicts relatively calm traffic on highways on Friday, a bridge day.
Our neighbors in Austria and Switzerland face a similar predicament with Corpus Christi being their holiday too. As a result, expect occasionally heavy traffic on classic tourist routes like the Brenner, Inntal, Tauern motorways, and the Swiss Gotthard route.
