Enthusiasts of art data forecasted at 40,000 for 'Cultural Soiree Celebration' - Anticipated Attendance of 40,000 at the "Cultural Soiree Festival"
Art and Tourism Gather 40,000 Attendees at "Cultural Countryside Party"
For eleven days, the Wendland region witnesses an influx of around 40,000 art enthusiasts, with the 36th "Cultural Countryside Party" (KLP) being its main attraction from Ascension Day to Pentecost. Organizers assert that this event has historical political underpinnings. The central theme of this gathering is "Solidary. Diverse. Standing Up Against the Right!", reflecting current societal developments.
Locally, the KLP originates from the anti-nuclear power movement and the protest against the Gorleben nuclear repository. However, the Wendland remains a conservative region for a long time, with folkish settler families becoming increasingly visible in schools, kindergartens, and fire departments, according to the organizers.
Numerous exhibitors, performances, and lectures at the event aim to address right-wing extremism during the event's duration. A comprehensive 320-page guide presents the 87 participants, drawing attention with orders from Austria and Denmark. KLP spokeswoman Eva Bothe explains, "For the merchants, this period is more important than the Christmas business."
An etiquette guide for outsiders outlines expected norms to ensure the event complements rather than disrupts local life. Among other tips, visitors are advised to refrain from littering in front yards, limit bike traffic on country roads, and avoid blocking driveway entrances.
Elsewhere in Gorleben, citizens initiate a political protest on Friday, June 6, by the mine. The focus revolves around critical actions confronting the interim storage of 113 highly radioactive Castor containers, which may remain for another 80 to 100 years. Additionally, the Gorleben citizens' initiative demands better protection for the storage hall, among other requirements.
In the Round Village Museum in Lübeln, a job fair takes place under the slogan "From Holiday to Life." The event encourages the exchange of ideas and fosters regional employment solutions through the Wendlandleben agency and the nature park.
The increasing number of visitors has intensified traffic between exhibitors, with many traveling by car. A bike rental service is offered for train travelers at select locations for ten euros per day.
- Despite the conservative leaning of the Wendland region, the employment policy of the "Cultural Countryside Party" organizing team includes initiatives such as the job fair in the Round Village Museum, emphasizing the exchange of ideas and fostering regional employment solutions.
