Andrew Garfield Has Preemptively Ruled Out Involvement in Spider-Man 4

Although Andrew Garfield was featured in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he was obligated to deny his involvement. As a result, his assertion of not being in the upcoming sequel, set for release in 2026, holds little credibility.

Garfield, in an interview with GQ, stated, "I'm going to disappoint you." When inquired about joining the upcoming fourth Spider-Man starring Tom Holland, he replied, "Nope, but no one will believe anything I say from now on." A peculiar phrase that transports us back to 2021, another instance where Garfield was questioned about his role in No Way Home. "I can only speak for myself," the actor explained at the time. "They might be doing something, but I haven't been contacted." In retrospect, we now understand that Garfield did receive a call and played a significant part in the film, though his involvement was kept under wraps to preserve the secret.

However, this time, Garfield's statement appears to carry more weight. Few concrete details have been disclosed about the sequel, apart from its director (Destin Daniel Cretton), strikingly limited cast (Tom Holland and Zendaya to begin with), and its release date (July 24, 2026). Producer Amy Pascal assured that the plot would continue from the conclusion of the previous film, where Peter Parker (Holland) concealed his identity to save the world. Consequently, we speculate the sequel will begin with an oblivious Peter Parker, continuing his role as Spider-Man, in a world unaware of his true identity.

Could the narrative remain localized in or around New York City? Possibly. However, it could also escalate into a grand multiverse adventure. And if that's the case, could this Peter Parker reconnect with his multiverse counterparts, Peter Two (Tobey Maguire) and Peter Three (Garfield)? That's a plausible scenario. Yet, we think the reunion might occur later in the saga, like in Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for release the following year.

Regardless of the outcome, Garfield won't be permitted to disclose it.
