Andhra Pradesh Tops Ease of Doing Business Rankings as India's Business Environment Improves
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has released the latest Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) state rankings, with Andhra Pradesh leading the pack. The rankings, based entirely on industry response, reflect significant improvements in the business environment across several Indian states and union territories.
Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana have shown remarkable progress, topping the list this year. These states, along with Maharashtra, have implemented reforms such as streamlined procedures, digitized services, and enhanced single-window clearance systems. These changes targeted reducing compliance burdens and improving regulatory transparency, contributing to their improved rankings.
The average implementation of reforms has more than doubled, from 32% in 2015 to 62% in 2019, according to the Business Reform Action Plan (BRAP) survey. The BRAP exercise, initiated in 2014, ranks states based on business reforms and provides objective information to help potential investors make informed decisions.
The Government's strong action to improve the business environment has borne fruit, with states like Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana leading the way. The BRAP exercise and EoDB rankings have helped reduce transaction costs, enhance process speed and transparency, and provide valuable insights for investors in the United States.
