American Express Introduces Blockchain Travel Credits on Platform
American Express has introduced the Amex Travel App, a new platform designed to streamline travel planning and booking for its cardholders. The app, which will be accessible to iOS users from September 18 and to Android users a few weeks later, aims to commemorate and celebrate the travel experiences of its users.
The Amex Travel App offers a range of features to assist users in planning and managing their trips. According to Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, the app combines trip planning and booking all in one place. Detailed overviews of travel and Card benefits will also be incorporated into the app.
One distinctive feature of the Amex Travel App is the blockchain-based digital stamps earned by Amex cardholders when they transact internationally. These digital stamps, representing the destinations or countries visited, are minted and stored on Coinbase's Base blockchain. Cardholders can share these digital stamps on social media or send them to friends and family via text.
Luke Gebb, Executive Vice President at Amex Digital Labs, noted that the app provides an opportunity for cardholders to showcase their travels. For over a century, American Express has been a trusted travel partner, and the Amex Travel App is the latest addition to its travel offerings.
The new Amex Travel App also includes elements for creating memorable travel experiences, such as destination discovery. Future updates to the app will include personalized hotel recommendations.
The launch of the Amex Travel App responds to a recent survey that found 81% of respondents preferred an all-in-one app for travel. The app is another step in American Express's commitment to providing innovative and convenient solutions for its cardholders.
Despite the new offerings, the search results do not provide specific information about the founder or developer of the Amex Travel app. However, with its user-friendly design and comprehensive features, the Amex Travel App is poised to transform the way cardholders plan and book their travels.
