The Wave of the Future: Biometric Data and Travel

Embrace the times, folks! The world of travel is stepping into a new era, with biometric data taking center stage. From enhanced scanners to advanced systems, it's all about the future. One airline leading the way is American Airlines, who've recently teamed up with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to introduce the EPP (Enhanced Passenger Processing) system at JFK Airport.

"We're committed to beefing up national security and simplifying legal travel," says Diane J. Sabatino, Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner of CBP. "By leveraging state-of-the-art tech and mobile applications, we're making airport inspections a continuous, touchless process—one that identifies risks promptly and processes legit travelers efficiently."

What in Tarnation is EPP?

EPP, short for Enhanced Passenger Processing, is a groundbreaking biometric screening system. It compares a traveler's live mugshot with their passport photo to leapfrog the re-entry process into the United States. This way, the traveler goes through a complete customs evaluation, including biometric authentication, compliance checks, and regulatory application, all before meeting the CBP officer.

And guess who can benefit from this game-changer? None other than U.S. citizens! And don't worry—participating is optional.

Airports Rocking the EPP Groove

EPP's already hot stuff at the following airports:

  • Orlando International Airport (MCO)
  • Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
  • Denver International Airport (DEN)
  • Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
  • Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA)
  • Cross Border Xpress (CBX)
  • Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
  • Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL)
  • Dublin Airport (DUB)

But hold onto your hats, New Yorkers, because JFK Airport's yet to join the party!
