Airbus received an order for 20 additional A330neo wide-body aircraft from Malaysia Aviation Group.

Malaysia Airlines, under its parent company Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), has recently doubled its order for Airbus A330-900neo aircraft, bringing the total to 40 planes. This expansion is part of a widebody fleet renewal program announced in July 2025.

Initially, MAG had committed to 20 A330-900neo aircraft, with four already delivered and currently operating on key routes such as Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali. The additional order, announced during the official visit to France of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, will double Malaysia Airlines' future A330neo fleet.

The A330-900neo was chosen for its fuel efficiency, operational flexibility, and modern premium cabin features. Powered by the latest generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the aircraft offers a range of up to 7,200 nautical miles (13,300 kilometers), enabling service on both regional and long-haul routes.

The A330-900neo's features are designed to cater to evolving market needs, offering enhanced fuel efficiency and flexibility across both regional and long-haul routes. Moreover, the aircraft is compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and MAG and Airbus have a target for 100% SAF capability by 2030 to support decarbonization efforts.

This aligns with Malaysia Airlines’ broader strategy to build a sustainable, future-ready fleet that balances growth with environmental responsibility. The delivery plan foresees the first 20 aircraft arriving by 2028, with the remaining 20 delivered between 2029 and 2031, replacing the older A330-200 and A330-300 models, which average around 15 years of age.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, stated that the A330neo order is a repeat endorsement of the aircraft's exceptional performance, fuel efficiency, versatility, and passenger comfort. The A330neo's popularity extends to premium airlines worldwide.

Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG, stated that the A330neo delivers the right balance of operational efficiency, range, and cabin comfort, offering passengers a unique experience, high level of comfort, ambience, and design, including more individual space, enlarged overhead bins, a new lighting system, and access to the latest in-flight entertainment and connectivity systems.

This move reinforces MAG's long-term vision of building a future-ready fleet, allowing the airline to offer a product that aligns with its premium positioning, featuring a modern, streamlined cabin design focused on passenger comfort and expectations.
