The Airbus A220-300, operating Flight LX1885 from Bucharest, Romania to Zurich, had to be diverted to Graz, Austria due to engine problems and smoke inside the cabin, as per the airline's announcement.
The plane touched down safely, and all 74 passengers and 5 crew members were successfully evacuated.
A dozen passengers and four team members sought medical assistance. One team member was airlifted to the hospital via helicopter, but their present condition is yet to be disclosed.
The aircraft has since been moved off the runway, according to the airline. The source of the smoke remains a mystery.
"SWISS offers its sincere apologies to passengers for the inconvenience and appreciates their understanding during this difficult scenario," the airline stated. "Our concerns are with the passengers and team members who went through this incident, particularly those still under medical supervision.
"We are maintaining close communication with the authorities and are actively working to uncover the cause of this incident."
