Additional Invitees Heading to Braunschweig
Braunschweig Kicks off 2025 with Tourism Boom
Hey folks! Guess what? Braunschweig's tourism game is on fire! According to the Lower Saxony State Office of Statistics (LSN), the city welcomed around 85,500 guests and 152,800 overnight stays during Q1 of 2025. That's almost a 8% increase in guests and a slight dip of 3% in overnight stays compared to the same period last year. City marketing and ATB are stoked, shouting it from the rooftops in a press release today.
Braunschweig, they say, has started the tourism year strong. The numbers, published by LSN, show an impressive 7.7% increase in guest arrivals compared to 2024, with a more modest 2.5% decrease in overnight stays.
More Guests, Shorter Visits
The average length of stay per guest has dipped from 1.9 last year to 1.8 in Q1 of this year. So, while tourists are staying a bit shorter, Braunschweig has managed to attract quite a few more visitors. Gerold Leppa, Managing Director of Braunschweig City Marketing GmbH, puts it like this: "Yeah, so although our visitors are sticking around for a shorter span, we've got a lot more people stepping foot in the Lion City. And let me tell you, that's a damn good look for our city!"
Leppa admits that the temporary closure of the InterCity Hotel since February 2024, which means 350 fewer beds for tourists, has played a part in the statistics. But hey, when you're enjoying an increase in guests, who's complaining?
March Madness
March 2025 was the most bustling month of the quarter. A likely reason for this is the Hannover Messe kicking off earlier this year on March 31st, drawing in tons of international visitors yet not significantly impacting the overnight stays. The event flaunts around 4,000 exhibitors and around 127,000 visitors, making it a magnet for tourists.
Leppa shares, "If you crunch the numbers, growth in guest arrivals in Q1 alone skyrocketed by a whopping 15% compared to last year — not too shabby, eh? The earlier Messe might have dampened tourism stats for Q2, though. But there's always next quarter!"
Another factor fueling the rise in Q1 guest arrivals is the late Easter holiday period. As Leppa explains, "The majority of our city's guests are here for business. So, it's no surprise to see a drop when students are off school or public holidays are upon us. We reckon that'll show up in April's numbers."
Optimism for Summer
Leppa stays bullish about the summer months: "Our new brand presence 'City of Lions' and our current campaigns 'Braunschweig. I must experience it' and 'Experience the outdoors' sure as hell paint Braunschweig as the ultimate destination for a summer city escape. Let's not forget that the Tourism Committee Braunschweig e. V., headed by Karsten Ziaja, believes that the positive trend we're experiencing, especially in event tourism, is gonna keep on rollin'."
A Quick Look at the Stats
The data for guest arrivals and overnight stays in Lower Saxony is collated by the LSN, based on reports from accommodation providers with at least ten beds and campsites with at least ten pitches. Remember, not all reports are supplied on time, so the monthly figures are often ballpark projections.
Even with a few caveats, the figures paint a rosy picture for Braunschweig's tourism landscape: a city that's drawing in more guests and turning heads in 2025!
- With the tourism boost, Braunschweig offers a perfect opportunity for travelers to immerse themselves in the city's lifestyle.
- The increase in guests suggests that travel to Braunschweig has become more popular, promising an exciting journey for those seeking new travel destinations in 2025.
