Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt Confirms Participation in I Know What You Did Last Summer Revival

What was she Holding out for, eh? Guess it was more cash! When the news dropped about an upcoming sequel/remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer in early 2023, rumors circulated that the original star, Jennifer Love Hewitt, was involved. But since then, Hewitt has kept quiet on the topic. Until now. This coming Friday the 13th, Julie James herself announced she'll be returning to confront a man with a hook once more.

"It's never too late to return," the actress posted on Instagram. "Julie James is back. I know what you'll be up to next summer!"

Filming for this reboot started last week, and it appears that Hewitt's co-star from the original, Freddie Prinze Jr., will also be reprising his role. Both actors managed to survive the 1997 original and its 1998 sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. There was then a direct-to-DVD sequel and a TV show, but this movie will disregard those.

Directing the film is Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge), who will mirror the style of the Scream franchise, which is similar to what I Know What You Did Last Summer initially did. In both franchises, old characters return to a story centered more around the new characters, acting as a handover. The new cast includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King. The extent of Hewitt's and Prinze Jr.'s roles isn't clear yet, but their appearances add credibility to the film. We're just curious – why do high school students keep accidentally killing guys in these towns, lying about it, and then facing the consequences? Maybe it's time to stop doing that.

As for a hint about the film, Hewitt's Instagram post might be telling us something. Her messages seem to tag a specific Instagram account. Guess this killer is quite active on social media.

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer will hit the screens this summer, on July 18.
